Dr. Elizabeth Rochon Receives the 2017-18 FoM Graduate Teaching Award

This award recognizes sustained contributions (at least fifteen years of all graduate appointments as of December of application year) to any aspect of graduate teaching including:

• graduate student supervision and mentoring
• curriculum development
• regular support of Graduate Departmental, Faculty and University graduate activities
• graduate program administration (as applicable)

Along with an appointment with RSI and belonging to the Speech-Language Pathology Department, Dr. Rochon is also a Senior Scientist and currently the co-Team Leader of the Communication Research Team at Toronto Rehab as well as an Associate Member (Baycrest) of the Heart and Stroke Foundation Centre for Stroke Recovery (HSFCSR).

Dr. Rochon’s research and teaching interests relate to the theory, assessment and treatment of aphasia, dementia and related disorders. Research interests lie in identifying the nature and components of linguistic and cognitive impairments subsequent to brain damage, and in developing new treatment approaches for language impairments in aphasia. In addition, she is interested in language processes in normal aging.

This honour is truly a great testimony to Dr. Rochon’s many impressive contributions to teaching and supervision.

Dr. Rochon will receive her award at the Faculty of Medicine Education Achievement Celebration on May 9, 2018.
