On January 8, Executive Vice-President, Science and Research for University Health Network (UHN), Dr. Bradly G. Wouters, announced the appointment of Dr. Milos Popovic to the position of Director of Research at Toronto Rehabilitation Institute.

Milos R. Popovic received his Ph.D. degree in mechanical engineering from the University of Toronto, Canada in 1996, and the Dipl. Electrical Engineer degree from the University of Belgrade, Serbia in 1990.

He has developed and implemented multiple generations of neuroprostheses for reaching, grasping and walking and these devices played an enormous role in his exploration of neuroplasticity and neurorecovery. He also developed and created start-up company MyndTec Inc. which uses neuromodulation for the restoration of voluntary upper limb function in severely disabled stroke patients.

In the announcement, Dr. Wouters acknowledges the extraordinary leadership of Toronto Rehab’s outgoing Research Director, Dr. Geoff Fernie, who was recently appointed a Member of the Order of Canada.

The Rehabilitation Sciences Institute congratulates Dr. Popovic on this appointment!
