In Memory of Patty Rigby

This message is on behalf of RSI Director, Dr. Angela Colantonio

It is with a heavy heart that I share sad news of the passing of Dr. Patty Rigby, a cherished RSI faculty member.

Dr. Rigby was one of the most caring, gracious and sincere individuals I have ever known. This sentiment has been shared broadly. She took a genuine interest in fellow faculty and was a dedicated mentor to her students. Her ever present warmth and unfailing smile will be missed.

Apart from these personal attributes, she was passionate about research excellence and the advancement of rehabilitation science. She made seminal contributions to pediatric occupational therapy. Although she retired from the Department of Occupational Science and Occupational Therapy as Associate Professor Emerita, she kept an appointment in RSI to continue mentoring the next generation of scientists. She and her husband also founded The Patty Rigby and John Wedge Graduate Scholarships in Science and Technology and as such was one of RSI’s most generous donors.

Patty’s spouse Dr. John Wedge and her family ask that in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Patty Rigby and John Wedge Graduate Scholarship in Science and Technology, which supports doctoral stream studies in ooccupational science in the Rehabilitation Sciences Institute at the University of Toronto. Donations to the scholarship can be made online or please contact Katie Rock, Senior Advancement Officer, at katie.rock@utoronto.ca or 416-559-2731 for other donation options. Donations to the Palliative Care Unit of the Michael Garron Hospital in Toronto are also welcome.

Sincerely,

Angela Colantonio, PhD, OT. Reg. (Ont.) FACRM, FCAHS
